In 1923, Asayo Murakami left Hiroshima and settled in a fishing village in Steveston, BC. Her family has memories of a happy woman who sang, danced and nurtured a colorful flower garden, but underneath, the memory of what she left in Japan haunted her deeply.

• Hidden Internment: Art Shibayama Story
by Irum Shiekh, Casey Peek and Grace Shimizu 30 min.
Reveals the lesser-known history of the Japanese-Latin American internment through the life story of a 13-yearold boy named Art Shibayama, who was taken from Peru on March 22, 1944 and interned in Crystal City, Texas for two years. Despite this internment, Art was denied equal redress provided to Japanese Americans.

Guest appearance by Mr. Art Shibayama, dir. Irum Shiekh & dir. Casey Peek.
